Breast Screening Specialist
Are you a consultant practitioner, consultant breast radiologist, breast clinician or GP with an interest in women’s health? We’re looking for a breast screening specialist to join our team to provide screening services for our breast patients.
The Breast Centre has been leading the way in breast care for 35 years as Newcastle’s only one-stop, same day centre for the diagnosis and treatment of breast problems. We are a multidisciplinary team of specialists providing long-term management of breast cancer.
Our team comprises four specialist surgeons, a breast clinician, two nephrologists, a specialist renal dietitian, two medical oncologists, three radiation oncologists, two lymphoedema physiotherapists, a McGrath Breast Care Nurse and a dedicated reception unit. Our highly-skilled cytotechnicians from Pathology North, and radiographers and ultrasonographers from Hunter Imaging Group (co-located in the centre), enable us to continue to provide the one-stop, same day results service for which we are known.
Our practice is after a part-time breast screening specialist to provide best practice breast diagnostic imaging and procedural services for patients attending for screening. Patients would include those with breast symptoms and those having surveillance for dense breasts or a family history.
This role could suit someone without significant experience in breast diagnosis who wants to develop a new skill. We have a systematic diagnostic process with multiple checks and balances to minimise the risk of misdiagnosis. As an additional measure of support, the successful candidate would work in diagnostic clinics alongside an experienced breast physician or breast surgeon who would be able to provide second opinions and supervise biopsies. The successful candidate would gain experience in the full range of triple assessment for patients (physical examination, imaging and biopsy) and the use of tomosynthesis (3D mammography) and breast interventional procedures such as ultrasound-guided needle biopsy and tomosynthesis-guided vacuum-assisted biopsies.
They will work closely with our breast surgeons and medical oncologists, referring patients who require further testing and treatment. The right candidate will maintain our reputation for high quality, efficient and compassionate care for all patients and have the ability to work cooperatively in a multidisciplinary team.
Your skills and experience:
You will hold tertiary qualifications in medicine and unconditional medical registration with AHPRA. While not essential, specialist qualifications in women’s health, Fellowship of RACGP or the ASBP, or experience working as a breast physician would be an advantage.
All NSW Health workers are required to have received two doses of a TGA approved COVID-19 vaccination or have an approved medical contraindication certificate. You will be required to provide a record of your COVID-19 vaccination status if successful.
We will offer the right candidate:
a warm, supportive, respectful team environment in which to work.
flexibility, autonomy and support.
competitive, negotiable terms.
modern facilities and equipment.
an innovative practice with a patient-centered, community focus.
a fully equipped treatment room.
a diverse and inclusive team of 4 breast surgeons and a breast clinician to work alongside.
the assistance of our team of registered physicians and administrative staff.
use of pathology and imaging facilities on-site.
