Your role will involve providing clinical oversight and positive leadership to ensure seamless collaboration within the team. Forster a robust clinical governance culture, encouraging accountability and continuous improvement. Manage clinical mental health services, conducting triage, assessments and coordinating therapeutic interventions.

headspace is funded by the Australian Government Department of Health under the Youth Mental Health Initiative Program. headspace has over 160 sites in Australia which aims to reduce the burden of disease in young people aged 12-25 years caused by mental health and other life factors through early identification and effective, evidence-based intervention delivered by primary care and specialist providers working together within a unified, accessible and integrated service framework.

headspace is a full-service headspace centre, providing the four core streams of Mental Health, Physical and sexual Health, Alcohol and Other Drug and Vocational and educational supports to young people in the community.

Responsibilities include:

  • Assist the Centre Manager to monitor the effectiveness of the Intake systems and referral pathways for young people who access headspace and identify gaps in these systems for improvement
  • Recruit clinical staff
  • Assess and provide psychological interventions to young people
  • Monitor wait times and identify alternate strategies to manage and/or assist client’s engagement in therapeutic interventions
  • Oversee any outreach services provided by headspace and identify service improvement strategies
  • Promote and adhere to a young person-centred approach working collaboratively with a multidisciplinary team for the engagement, assessment, treatment and social and vocational rehabilitation of young people accessing headspace.
  • Deliver culturally safe and respectful services.
  • Promote and adhere to youth friendly practice principles that effectively manage risk
  • Support the headspace salaried staff, headspace General Practitioner, Private Providers and co-located services to respond to clients presenting to headspace in a crisis or “at risk” of harm

About you?

  • Tertiary degree in Psychology, Social Work, Nursing, Occupational Therapy or similar as well as substantial work experience in child and adolescent mental health settings
  • Maintain membership of relevant professional association
  • Demonstrated evidence based clinical skills in assessment and working with young people and their families/carers in a mental health and/ or drug and alcohol setting
  • An understanding of the needs of young people with a mental illness, including engagement with the mental health service system.
  • Ability to advocate for improved accessibility for young people across a number of service systems
  • Ability to provide effective leadership and multi-disciplinary teamwork skills in relation to the management of risk within a youth mental health setting
  • Ability to develop, manage and monitor performance outcomes for programs and activities
  • Ability to provide formal and informal clinical supervision to staff that incorporates self - reflection and development.
  • Highly developed interpersonal, public relations and communication skills, including sound oral and writing skills.
  • An understanding of and commitment to Child Protection legislation and OH&S principles
  • Current Unrestricted Drivers Licence, WWCC, current First Aid Certificate (or willingness to obtain) & COVID vaccination evidence
