HIV pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP) is an easy, safe and effective method to prevent HIV infection. Widespread use of PrEP by higher risk individuals in NSW has resulted in a significant reduction in the number of new HIV diagnoses. GPs play a pivotal role in identifying those at risk and prescribing PrEP. To build equitable access to PrEP there is renewed focus to make PrEP available to all patients at risk of HIV, including patients from culturally and linguistically diverse (CALD) backgrounds.

This training provides participants with practical skills and increased confidence to offer and prescribe PrEP in a culturally appropriate way to CALD patients at risk of HIV. The training will also include a patient's experience of accessing sexual health care.

Learning outcomes:

• Identify principles of culturally appropriate care and considerations for prescribing PrEP to patients from CALD backgrounds

• Use a clinical decision making tool to prescribe HIV PrEP in-line with recently updated national Guidelines

• Integrate comprehensive STI and HIV testing as part of a PrEP consultation

• Identify referral pathways for more complex PrEP patient presentations, including positive HIV results
