Nundle Community ‘Excited’ for New Medical Outreach Service.

Nundle residents will have increased access to health care from this month as an outreach service commences on a fortnightly basis. The collaboration between Tamworth Aboriginal Medical Service (TAMS), the Hunter New England Central Coast Primary Health Network (PHN) and the Hunter New England Local Health District (LHD), will provide a fortnightly clinic to the town in the CWA building, offering access to a GP, nurse and Aboriginal Health Practitioner.

The PHN Chief Executive Officer, Richard Nankervis, has been advocating for improved health care access in the PHN’s rural and remote regions. “The town has not had a dedicated general practice for more than a decade and has relied upon monthly outreach services. This new partnership will double the availability of medical appointments for Nundle residents and ensure timely access to health care.

“The PHN is always looking for ways to work with the community to identify solutions to access and workforce issues. We’re proud to work in collaboration, not only with TAMS and the LHD but the local health committee, to produce these positive outcomes.”

Cathy Hastings, Manager of Tamworth Community Health Service said TAMS was asked to provide the outreach service following their success with COVID-19 vaccination clinics. “The TAMS team are efficient in their service provision, know the community and are great at getting things done. The LHD are looking forward to supporting them as they deliver this important service to Nundle.”

Acting TAMS CEO Damion Brown is orchestrating the clinic from an operational level. “Dr Raj Ishri and an Aboriginal Health Practitioner will provide the fortnightly service to Nundle. Our team is pleased to have the opportunity to support the Nundle community.”

The TAMS outreach clinic builds on the nursing clinics already provided in Nundle by Tamworth Community Health Service.

Gay Sipple from the region’s health committee said that the Nundle Community is excited at having the extra medical service and are very grateful to TAMS, PHN, HNE Health and Nundle CWA for their collaboration in providing the service.
