In 2024, National Palliative Care Week runs from Sunday, 19 May to Saturday, 25 May with a host of local events supported by a vibrant social media campaign - allowing Australians to connect with the ‘people at the heart of quality palliative care’ – the doctors, nurses, social workers, volunteers, and many others.

Culturally responsive leadership training

This 3-hour online workshop will help managers and team leaders to build their confidence and capability to support staff from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds. Through interactive and thought-provoking activities participants will hone their skills in communicating cross culturally to minimise misunderstanding and identify strategies to address common challenges that culturally diverse staff experience when working in aged care services, disability care, and veteran care services.

Note: this workshop is also available at the same time on Thursday 20 June and Tuesday 25 June.

Accurate data and reporting into the Primary Mental Health Minimum Dataset (PMHC-MDS) remains essential to demonstrate good performance. Significant improvements have recently been acknowledged by the Department of Health & Aged Care, but collated data from across the region has identified that opportunities still exist to achieve the mandatory 70% threshold in Indicator Out-3.

Facing the Challenges and Unknowns Posed by GLP-1 Receptor Agonist Medications including Eating Disorders

In this webinar Dr Brown will provide an overview of how GLP-1RAs act in the brain to increase feeling of satiety as well as reduce hedonic aspects of eating behaviour such as craving. She will also cover what is known about the role of GLP-1 in stress and mood. Assoc/Prof Piya will then provide an overview of the use of GLP-1 receptor agonists medications in Type 2 diabetes and weight management. He will overview the clinical trial data to date and address factors clinicians should take into account when patients with an eating disorder seek guidance on GLP-1 RAs.
