Advanced Training in Suicide Prevention

This workshop aims to increase health professionals’ skill and confidence in taking a detailed suicide history and developing a collaborative management plan to increase the safety of people planning suicide. It also provides practical tools for health professionals managing the full spectrum of suicide risk presentations including the acute suicidal crisis, care after a suicide attempt and assisting families experiencing suicide bereavement.

Privacy Training Webinar - for Health Service Providers

These webinars provide intensive privacy training for health service providers on requirements regarding the handling of personal information under the Commonwealth Privacy Act's Australian Privacy Principles (APPs).

The course provides industry-specific training, addressing obligations and scenarios specifically in the context of health services. It equips participants with a detailed understanding of:

• legal requirements regarding managing personal information under the APPs;

• how to apply the laws in practical situations; and

• how to identify and manage privacy risks and incidents.

The course is held across 2 x 3 hr webinars (6 hrs total) on consecutive days. Participants are able to communicate directly with the facilitator throughout the webinar and participant numbers are limited to ensure optimal class sizes for learning and interaction.

Data Breach Notification Scheme Training Webinars - for Health Service Providers

This webinar provides training for senior staff of health service provider organisations on the requirements for handling data breach incidents under the Data Breach Notification Scheme (DBN Scheme) of the Commonwealth Privacy Act.

The course provides industry-specific training, addressing obligations and scenarios specifically in the context of health services. It equips participants with a detailed understanding of:

• the DBN Scheme requirements;

• governance mechanisms required to meet obligations;

• how prompt remedial action can prevent notification requirements being triggered;

• how to apply scheme requirements in real-life scenarios;

• issues to address in supplier and client contracts.

Culturally Responsive Health Care for Older Australians

Through a facilitated panel discussion, about culturally responsive practice, at the completion of the webinar participants will:

  • Discuss how culturally diverse social and emotional wellbeing beliefs are associated with healing and recovery for older people.
  • Outline the impacts of treatment and support sought by older people experiencing difficulties with their social and emotional wellbeing.
  • Discuss practical tips and strategies to engage in recovery oriented culturally responsive conversations with older people

Introduction to talking to patients about health and weight

We know weight management conversations can be a difficult topic for health professionals to navigate, with time constraints and sensitivities around the topic. This is why Cancer Council Victoria has developed ‘Talking to patients about health and weight’, an accredited online training course.

This webinar will provide a brief introduction to the training topics including: The importance of weight management conversations, behaviour change conversations using engaging, non-stigmatising language and the 5As framework. A GP will also discuss how he has used the training in practice and how you can apply this to your role. Presented by Stavroula Zandes, with special guest Dr Gihan Jayaweera.

Telehealth in the COVID-19 Era

Telehealth has become an important mode of care delivery over time, and its sudden popularity in the early days of the COVID-19 pandemic signaled a possible healthcare transformation. Telehealth helped maintain continuity of care for millions, preserved personal protective equipment, and facilitated social distancing. Yet, questions remain. In this panel discussion, healthcare researchers and practitioners from Australia and the United States will address increased use of telehealth in these unprecedented times, challenges of an accelerated life cycle of expansive delivery changes, and sustained use of telehealth, with the aim of exchanging ideas and experiences from both countries.
