Sleep and the Role of Medicinal Cannabis

Webinar event with Dr Dev Banerjee (Medical Director of Lullaby Sleep) presenting. This webinar aims to explain the role of Medicinal Cannabis in recalcitrant chronic insomnia to general practitioners by providing a summary of sleep physiology, common psychiatric and medical comorbidities and known non-pharmacological approaches to sleep disorders. The role of Medicinal Cannabis in sleep disorders resistant to usual interventions will be explored, providing guidance for the new prescriber.

The Kidney Health Red Socks Appeal 2021

As you may know, every year, thousands of Australians living with kidney disease spend countless hours hooked up to dialysis machines for treatment. The Kidney Health Red Socks Appeal, launched in November 2020, aims to help raise awareness about kidney disease treatment – interesting fact: cold feet are a common side effect when undergoing dialysis.

Kidney Health Australia is hosting an information webinar on the Kidney Health Red Socks Appeal on Tuesday 31st August at 7pm AEST.

In this webinar we will share important facts about chronic kidney disease and how you and your colleagues can get involved and show your support in the Red Socks Appeal. Registration is essential.

Heart failure: how a team approach can optimise patient care

We know that a multidisciplinary approach to support people living with heart failure improves outcomes and quality of life. You will hear from a GP, heart failure nurse practitioner, pharmacist and a person living with heart failure about how to improve care. During the webinar, panel members will use case studies to discuss strategies for heart failure management, including initiation and up-titration of heart failure medicines, the role of home-medicines reviews, and patient action plans.

Free RACGP webinar: The health effects of climate change

Climate change is a major health threat, indeed it has been described as the greatest threat to human health for this century. This activity introduces general practitioners to the health effects of climate change. It outlines how anthropogenic global warming is changing our climate and how this change then affects human health. The webinar will look at opportunities for GPs to adapt and mitigate the climate crisis, focusing on what can be done regarding patients, practices, communities, and for themselves.

Learning outcomes

1. Describe how burning fossil fuels causes global warming

2. Identify three common health impacts of climate change

3. Describe which groups are at the greatest risk of heat related illness

4. Describe which groups are at the greatest risk of smoke inhalation from bushfires

5. Identify the mental health impacts of climate change
