Ear Wax Removal (Irrigation)

The Course in Ear Wax Removal (Irrigation) aims to develop the knowledge and skills to be able to manage was (cerumen) and the irrigation process including risks, safety of practice, complications, follow up and referral recommendations. You will learn the skills and knowledge required to safely undertake an ear assessment and will be assessed in the classroom by a clinical trainer. On successful completion of the program, you will be accredited in ear wax removal by irrigation and therefore workplace ready.

Frailty and multimorbidity

In Vivo Academy invites you to the third of the Multimorbidity Webinar Series - “Multimorbidity and frailty” with Dr Jagdeesh Singh Dhaliwal (Clinical Director, Aged Care GP, Melbourne) as presenter and Emeritus Professor Mieke van Driel (General Practice Clinical Unit, The University of Queensland) as Facilitator.

Multimorbidity with frailty is common, and both have been associated with the risk of disability, hospitalisation and mortality and increased health-related costs in the elderly population.(1,2) Age, sex and socioeconomic position are reported risk factors, but management should have a patient-centred, multidisciplinary approach.(3) Learn how to prioritise care decisions and apply strategies that enhance patient–clinician communication.

safeYARN Suicide Alertness Training for Indigenous Peoples

safeYARN is a half-day alertness workshop that prepares anyone over the age of 15, regardless of prior experience or training, to become a suicide-alert helper. Most people with thoughts of suicide don’t truly want to die, but are struggling with the pain in their lives. safeYARN-trained helpers can recognize these invitations and take action by connecting them with life-saving intervention resources, such as caregivers trained in I-ASIST.

I-ASIST (Suicide First Aid for Indigenous Peoples)

Indigenous Applied Suicide Intervention Skills Training is a 2 a half day suicide first aid workshop, specifically for Indigenous peoples and those who work with Indigenous people. During the workshop you will learn to recognise when someone may be thinking about suicide, and how to work with them to support their immediate safety in a way that is culturally appropriate and empowering.

This workshops fully funded and there is no cost to attend (workshop is valued at $595 per person).

Discuss the challenges of the transition to older age where frailty, loneliness and suicidal thoughts can occur.

Learning Outcomes:

Discuss how frailty, loneliness, sadness, depression and suicide are connected.

Identify strategies for mitigating the link between physical frailty and mental frailty.

Evaluate the role the community plays in Older People's physical and mental health.

Identify the services that can support Older People's social and emotional wellbeing in the community and Residential Aged Care Facilities (RACF's).

Discuss improved targeting of referrals for older people who may be experiencing frailty, loneliness, sadness, depression or suicidal ideation as a result of improved understanding of the role of different disciplines and community services.
