Treating co-occurring substance use and mental health disorders using tools from CBT

Presented by: Jo Cassar (Clinical Psychologist, The Matilda Centre for Research in Mental Health and Substance Use, University of Sydney) By the end of this webinar, attendees will be able to: • Recognise the importance of assessing for substance use when a client presents with a mental health disorder; • Use some key tools from CBT such as cognitive restructuring and activity scheduling with clients presenting with co-occurring substance use and mental disorders; • Understand some common challenges associated with developing activities for behaviour change when working with co-occurring substance use and mental disorders.

2nd Australasian COVID-19 Conference

The endocannabinoid system and medicinal cannabis: What you didn’t learn in medical school

Please join expert guest speakers from Australia and overseas for a VIRTUAL interactive and practical discussion on the foundations of cannabis in medicine, as well as the dosing and prescribing of medicinal cannabis in an Australia context. The learning outcomes are: • Discuss the history of cannabis with relation to historical medicinal use, prohibition and reinstating its medicinal value. • Describe the Endocannabinoid System (ECS), its components and its role in the physiology of other bodily systems. • Outline list of actions for common cannabinoids and terpenes. • Select the appropriate dosage form and administration of cannabis based on patient presentation/symptoms and desired outcome (i.e. duration of effect and potency) • Outline cannabis-specific drug interactions and common side effects. • Describe the available prescribing pathways for pharmaceutical cannabis in eligible patients.
