As the PHN continues to focus on increasing equitable access to services, there is an opportunity to remind the commissioned Mental Health Services about accessing free translation services to assist clients from culturally and linguistically diverse (CALD) background.
All PHN-Commissioned Mental Health Services are able to access free translation services from the Federal Government Translating and Interpreting Service (TIS National). Services are available 24/7 for either pre-booked appointments or scheduled for appointments.
By accessing translation services, we can ensure that all clients from non-English speaking backgrounds can set up appointments, discuss their care with their mental health worker, and be fully informed about their care plan.
Interpreting services can be on the phone, on-site, or video interpreting as available. TIS National has credentialed interpreters in over 150 languages and are all accredited translators or interpreters.
The PHN is committed to ensuring that everyone has access to the mental health services they need by including translation into mental health treatment we ensure that people with lower English skills have the same equity of access and service provision.
To access the service you will need to register for a TIS National Client Code. Instructions can be found on the website.
If you have any questions about eligibility or accessing the service please reach out to your Commissioning Coordinator.
