The Hunter New England Central Coast Primary Health Network is pleased to announce a contract has been signed with Hunter Primary Care to continue to deliver the GP Access After Hours service in Newcastle, Lake Macquarie and Maitland for a further two years.
The aim of Urgent Care Services is to reduce the number of people presenting to emergency departments by addressing service gaps. On behalf of NSW Health, and in partnership with Central Coast and Hunter New England Local Health Districts, the PHN is assisting with the coordination of the Expressions of Interest (EOI) process for Urgent Care Services in our region. EOI related decisions will be made by NSW Health.
In April 2022 Hunter New England & Central Coast (HNECC) PHN surveyed the current Commissioned Service Providers to better understand their provider experience. The responses allow the PHN to reflect on its own performance as a commissioner of healthcare services.

The recently published piece in the Croakey Blog Commissioning no cure for Australian health equity which discussed the pros and cons of commissioning ultimately presented a negative picture for the future of commissioning in Australia
