Welcome to Tenterfield

On behalf of Tenterfield Shire Council, I welcome GPs and health professionals who have relocated to or are undertaking training in our shire. We appreciate your commitment to rural communities and encourage your continued connection with us.

Tenterfield shire is a region of contrasts, featuring vastly different landscapes ranging from rich farmland, gentle slopes and sheltered valleys to rugged timbered mountains, granite outcrops, volcanic plugs, rainforests, wild rivers, waterfalls and gentle creeks, offering a wide diversity of experiences in adventure, ecotourism and wildlife encounters. Tenterfield is renowned for four distinct seasons typified by glorious displays of colourful autumn leaves, winters snuggled by the fireside, beautiful spring blossoms and mild summers, and is strategically located at the juncture of northern NSW and southern QLD.

Tenterfield township boasts a unique place in Australia’s history, stunning historical buildings, parks, open gardens, covered playgrounds, boutique shopping, museums, art galleries, theatre, an eclectic array of dining choices, plus a variety of sporting facilities. Our villages each have charming histories and attractions, with generous and welcoming communities and many active volunteer organisations that hold regular events, including the Autumn Festival, Gravel n Granite cycle races, Oracles of the Bush and the Bavarian Music Festival and Beerfest.

If you are considering a move to our beautiful shire, you will find in the following summary many and varied reasons to take the leap into the enviable lifestyle that awaits you!

Mayor of Tenterfield Shire Council
