On behalf of MidCoast Council and our community, I would like to welcome you to our unique and special region. Health professionals are a highly valued resource in our community, and I thank you for considering our region as your new home.

We are on the land of the Gathang-speaking Worimi and Biripi people.

Known as the Barrington Coast, we are well known for natural beauty, spanning sparkling beaches on the coast to mountains in west. The region includes the Manning River valley, Wallis and Smiths Lake, the Myall Lakes system, the northern shore of Port Stephens, agricultural hinterland, rugged, forested ranges of the Woko and Tapin Tops National Parks, the coastal Myall Lakes and Crowdy Head National Parks, and the World Heritage-listed Barrington Tops National Park.

Steeped in culture and history, the region offers a diverse range of year-round events and experiences for all ages. Taree is the major commercial centre which hosts a vibrant cultural hub including the Manning Regional Art Gallery and the Manning Entertainment Centre, promoting art, theatre and community engagement. Forster/Tuncurry and our coastal towns provide sea change lifestyles. We offer a range of quality education facilities including public and private schools and the exciting Taree Universities Campus.

For the food lover, we have eateries showcasing quality local produce, including our homegrown famous Sydney Rock Oysters, Wagyu beef, and buffalo mozzarella. And for the adventurist– watersports, hiking and camping, 4WD tracks, whale watching, coastal walks, festivals– we have it all!

We welcome you to the Barrington Coast – where the leaves meet the water from the mountains to the sea.

Cr Claire Pontin
Mayor of MidCoast Council
